OCONEE BELL CHAPTER OF THE NC NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY
Introduction to Mountain Gardening: What am I supposed to do with my landscape?
Sunday, August 25, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm - The Pavilion at The Village Green
Join famed Landscape Architect Mary Palmer Dargan, Arielle McIntyre, and Dr. Nancy Pelaez Anderson to talk about cultivating the spirit of your landscape. They will discuss how anyone can use plants to make an outdoor space more beautiful, easier to care for, and better for wildlife, whether you have a shady or an open yard, a slope that needs erosion control, or a deck space or small balcony. This lively seminar will explore landscape designs that provide safe havens for the birds and wildlife that we love. Food and shelter are needed for our favorite regular birds, as well as pit stops for seasonal and migratory wildlife visitors. By working with nature to design a dynamic landscape for our bioregion, the speakers will demonstrate how they edit an existing landscape and consider working with nature to create a successful plateau or high-elevation landscape. Knowing what to keep, what to remediate, and what to get rid of, the speakers will address typical problems and offer some design solutions based on naturalistic planting to make your landscape fit the spirit of your home.
